• if< 70 mg/dl, give 100–200 cc of 5 or 10% dextrose solution. • m70-250mg/dl, give regular fluids (D5 1/2 normal saline solution to keep vein open) • m250-300mg/dl, give 4–6 U of regular human insulin subcutaneously. • m301-350mg/dl, give 6–8 U of regular human insulin subcutaneously. • m>350mg/dl, consider canceling surgery or consider using an insulin drip to correct the glucose values.
